Mexico Manufacturing – Mexicali, Mexico
Mexicali, Mexico was created for agriculture. A canal built by the California Land Company in 1903 connected the Colorado River to the fertile land and that year the collection of huts and ramadas that straddled the border burst into cities: Calexico on the U.S side, and Mexicali on the Mexican side. By late 1904, 100,000 acres were irrigated and 10,000 people settled. Now along with the asparagus, broccoli, green onions and radishes there are Cornell Dubilier capacitors, and with about a quarter of Mexicali's employment from manufacturing, Cornell Dubilier has plenty of company with multinational electronics firms.
Cornell Dubilier's company, C D Electronica de Mexico S A de C V was established in 1984 and now with 102,000 square feet (9,500 m2), its principal products are dipped mica capacitors, power film capacitors, capacitor snubber modules, oil filled AC and high voltage capacitors and solenoids for custom applications like irrigation valves. The plant is ISO-9001 certified and located five miles from Calexico, CA and 127 miles from San Diego, a two-hour drive. It maintains a stocking warehouse in Calexico to support nearby customers with quick delivery. Product management for solenoids and contract manufacturing is in Mexicali and for other products, New Bedford. Its engineering support and solenoid-manufacturing capability provide savings for solenoid users in the U.S.
